Committee Overview
DPSIMUN 2026 presents the Special Political and Decolonization Committee, where borders and sovereignty collide! With political disputes and peacekeeping on the line, delegates will untangle the conflicts that have divided nations for decades.
Formed in 1990, SPECPOL addresses political and decolonization-related topics including Palestinian refugees, space exploration, atomic radiation effects, peacekeeping, and humanitarian crises in non-self-governing territories.
In alignment with "Engineering Stability in an Age of Volatility," SPECPOL tasks delegates with engineering sustainable structural mechanisms to safeguard peace, mitigate regional instability, and protect human dignity.

"Dear Delegates, I am honoured and excited to be your Chair for this year’s MUN. This is going to be my third MUN and is actually my first time chairing a committee. MUN’s can seem a little bit daunting at first, especially if you're stepping outside your comfort zone, but I encourage you to approach it with an open mind; MUNs are an opportunity to build your confidence, meet new people, develop new perspectives and learn new things, so don't be afraid to speak up. For more practical advice, make sure you thoroughly research your country’s position on the topics, think critically about the issues, and be prepared to engage in respectful and constructive debates with your fellow delegates. I hope this committee provides an enjoyable, challenging, and rewarding experience for everyone. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and wish you the best in your preparation. "Hello delegates, My name is Mary de Manuel, and I am proud to serve as your chair for the SPECPOL committee. After over 3 years of MUN experience as a delegate, I'm thrilled to finally be on this side of the gavel. As this is my first time chairing, I hope we can all learn something from each other throughout the conference. I promise to bring lots of energy and encouragement to the committee, so that whether this is your first MUN or your 100th, SPECPOL will be one you'll remember. SPECPOL is a committee that will challenge you to look beyond the surface of international conflicts, where we will explore topics like proxy warfare and smuggling resources through the black market. Fret not, as Ewurabena and will be here to guide you through these discussions, while encouraging you to think critically, engage with different perspectives, and develop solutions that go beyond the obvious.
